Defying the odds, and accepting the challenges that life bestows upon us is what defines and builds our character. We can’t grow or know what we are capable of until we’ve encountered adversity. Here is yet another touching story as seen on “American Idol.”
Marcio Donaldson, a 28-year-old server from Compton, CA, has been through his fair share of challenges starting from a very young age. Growing up in the inner city, he was in and out of foster care with not much of a childhood. There was little stability and not much hope, but one of the ways he chose to cope was through music.
It was into his adult years, when his sister had a baby and couldn’t take care of him, that Marcio’s life changed. The police showed up at his door with her one-week-old baby. They gave Marcio a choice and 10 minutes to decide: he adopts, or the child goes into foster care.
Marcio says, “I had no idea what I was doing. But he’s actually a real gift. I know it was the right decision. And he’s changed my life.” This is the backstory to Marcio’s appearance on “American Idol.” He is before the judges with the baby, Rashad when Luke Bryan asks to hold the child. Marcio can barely keep his tears back as he starts to sing “Jealous” by Labrinth.
And what a voice he has! His performance is filled with raw emotion and love. He’s singing for his son, for his future, for their lives and for whatever happens next. Even the judges were floored. This is a must watch audition.
