It’s beach weather! Pack up the kids and toys, and hit the road and get out of the hot city onto the beach. After you’ve changed into your swimsuit, set up the umbrella and lay out the towels – and of course, put on sunscreen! – there’s only one thing left to do and that is to get wet! Now, some people like to take their time, slowly making their way into the water. They dip their toes and reluctantly make their way deeper into the lake or ocean, carefully and methodically. Then there are people (like me!) who barrel down the beach running in with the same speed and urgency as a lifeguard saving a drowning person. I like to run head-on, making a big splash.
But what happens when you have a dog that gets in your way? A dog that knows that her job is to protect but takes it too seriously? Well, it’s pretty darn cute, but it does kind of get in the way of a bold entrance!
In this really sweet video, dad starts rolling the camera when he notices his daughter and the family dog splish-splashing around in the shallow water. They’re only a few inches deep, hardly swimming, when the dog, Yahtzee, a giant Schnauzer, keeps blocking the young girl. The dog keeps positioning herself between the girl and the break, moving and adjusting when the little girl tries to get free. Dad is giggling behind the camera, saying “I had to get this on video where Yahtzee is not allowing my daughter to go in the water and she’s literally protecting her from the waves!”
The video goes on for moments and the girl and protective dog dance around each other. The daughter wants to break free, but Yahtzee is there every step of the way making sure to protect her from a large wave that could take her down. Yahtzee is serious about keeping her human out of harm’s way! Eventually, the girl kind of gives up trying to go too far, and they both have an extra safe and fun time closer to the shore.
This video is just another example of what your dogs will do to make sure that you’re safe all the time. Yahtzee doesn’t mean to ruin the fun, she just doesn’t want his little human to get hurt.
