When you see your friend in a distressing situation, you have two options – run to save yourself or risk your life to save your loved one.

Kendell Cummings and Brady Lowry were antler hunting with their friends and fellow team members at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, one day.

While they were walking, Brady noticed bear marks on the soft ground, so he alerted Kendell about it.

They’re In Danger

After just a few moments, the bear showed itself. Brady yelled “bear” to warn his friends, but the grizzly was already after them.

He Got Caught

The bear tackled Brady, causing him to fall about five feet off a small ledge. He said, “It started chomping on me pretty good. It got a hold of my left arm, it was shaking me around, broke my left arm.”

Saving His Friend

Kendell saw what was happening, and he didn’t want to leave his best friend behind so he began distracting the beat by yelling and throwing stuff at it, but it didn’t work, so he jumped down and grabbed the bear off of Brady.

Life-Or-Death Situation

This caused the bear to turn its attention to Kendell. The grizzly stepped back for a moment but returned, this time more aggressively, and bit Kendell on the head and cheek before going back into the forest.

Calling For Help

When the grizzly bear was already away, Brady had the chance to call 911. After a while, the emergency responders rushed to the area to help them and took them to a Billings, Montana hospital.

No Brother Left Behind

Kendell suffered the most severe injuries, but he is glad that his friends are safe and he’s also thankful to them for saving him as well. Brady said, “We become best friends going to h**l and back with each other. Seeing someone sweat and bleed, coach teaches us that you aren’t going to leave a brother behind.”

In the movie, "The Four Feathers" there is a poem that describe how above all else you will remember those who stood with you in battle. This was a battle that all survived. All the best to you all.
