It is important to get to know the people within your community because you’ll never know who you can help or who can help you in times of trouble.
Meet Kayla
Kayla Berridge works for the U.S. Postal Service in Newmarket, New Hampshire.
Friendly Neighborhood
She has a pretty good grasp of life on her everyday route and she’s made some friends within the neighborhood.
A Senior Friend
Kayla’s made friends with a woman in her 80s who would collect her mail every day. They had spoken several times and have become familiar with each other.
Something Odd
One Thursday, Kayla noticed that four days of deliveries stood untouched at the woman’s porch and her car was still in the driveway.
She Called For Help
Worried, Kayla made the call, and police arrived to check the home. Detective Wedgeworth was the first officer on the scene.
They Saw The Woman
Newmarket Police Department said on a Facebook post, “Once inside the residence officers discovered the elderly subject was trapped under items that had fallen on her inside the bedroom. It was determined that she had been trapped on the floor for at least 3 days and possibly longer.”
The Rescuers Arrived
Newmarket Fire and Rescue arrived to transport the woman to the hospital. She was treated for hypothermia and dehydration.
Thanks To Kayla
Newmarket police Lt. Wayne Stevens told CNN, “It is this department’s belief that Kayla’s knowledge of the people on her route as well as her attentiveness saved the life of this resident.”
