Marine Veteran’s Dying Wish Is Granted With Bagpipe Performance

This sweet gesture symbolizes the strong relationship between a father and daughter.

Meet Richard

Richard Marsh is a dignified Marine Captain veteran whose journey nears its horizon.

His Condition

He was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic and liver cancer, so his family has been going to great lengths to make sure he spends his final days happily.

His Final Wish

Despite all of this, he had told his daughter Stacy what he wanted done for his burial – having bagpipes played. This plea stuck in Stacy’s heart since it was both very personal and entrenched in history.

Sweet Surprise

One day, while Richard was resting outdoors, the sound of bagpipes filled the air. His body shook in surprise as the music he so desperately wanted to hear was here and now.

He Was Moved

Michael Cy, the bagpiper, was a picture of tradition and reverence, dressed in full regalia. The bagpipes and his family’s tradition blended together to make this more than just a performance.

Salute!

Richard mustered the strength to stand, representing the honor and tenacity that had characterized his life, and then he gave a moving salute to Michael whose presence demonstrated Stacy’s admiration and affection for her father.

His Own Story

For Michael as well, this touching experience had personal significance. Every note he played was a tribute to his father, who taught him the bagpipes.

Newfound Friendship

Michael and Richard developed an intangible, wordless kinship through their common experience of grief and remembrance. This was all because of Stacy’s act of a celebration of life, of times spent together and memories treasured, rather than just the realization of a wish.
