It’s truly remarkable to hear of the recovery journeys of animals who were once on the verge of giving up.
An Unexpected Visitor
One day, a cougar cub found her way to the Central Valley Animal Rescue in Quilcene, Washington, curled up in the hay, and waited for someone to come to her rescue.
Left With No Surviving Skills
After her examination, the shelter’s experts inferred that the cub’s mother had recently died right before she could pass down her survival skills, which explains why the feline was extremely malnourished.
All The Care That She Needs
The experts estimated that the cougar had about a ten percent chance of survival before finding her way into the rehab center, so they did everything they could to help her get back up.
Sara And Her Team
Sara Penhallegon, the owner of the rehab, made sure that the cub would receive all the care that she needs for her recovery.
Gaining Her Weight Back
The cougar was a mere 34 pounds when she was found, but after a few days in the rehab, the distressed mountain lion was able to gain ten pounds back.
A Sign Of Recovery
“It started getting feisty and it would hiss and growl at me every time I walked over,” says Sara. “That was a very good sign.”
Her New Home
The rehab center chose not to release the cougar back into the wild due to its inability to hunt for itself. “Obviously, our goal is to return animals to the wild, but the next best option is a really good captive placement with a great facility that can take care of its needs,” says Sara.
An Amazing Story Of Recovery
People on the internet are moved by the cougar’s story and it’s been touching many people’s hearts up to this day.
