Quarantine can get pretty boring, right? Well, one crazy-cool uncle near Llandyrnog, Wales decided to help make his nephew’s dream of having a working backyard rollercoaster a reality as a way to stay entertained.
They Named It the Bigger Dipper
And it’s sure big at a whopping 230 feet in length!
The Uncle Constructed the Rollercoaster with His Nephew And Son
Uncle Leigh Downing and his 20-year-old nephew, Calden Ashley, made the rollercoaster happen, along with Leigh’s son, Charlie, who’s a hobby mechanic.
They Had to Be Creative with the Supplies They Used
The trio chose to use plastic pipes for the rails, a wooden cutting board for the seat of the coaster, and old wood and metal to construct the frame of the attraction.
Nephew Calden Was the One Who Came Up with the Design
“We said to Calden, you do the design. He designed it from start to finish including every twist, turn and bunny hop,” Leigh explained.
It Didn’t Take Them Long to Complete It
Surprisingly, it only took them eight days to finish the project!
Leigh’s Educational Background Came in Handy
He’s pretty much an expert in all things engineering.
They’re So Proud of the Work They’ve Done!
“I feel we did something absolutely amazing,” said Leigh.
And it’s Perfect for Calden
Leigh said that Calden is a big fan of rollercoasters and has been for quite some time.
They Have Future Rollercoaster-Making Plans
“Our next plan is a full steel rollercoaster with a corkscrew and a loop which, of course, will rely on Charlie’s maths degree coupled with Calden’s rollercoaster designs.”
If only I could give one of their coasters a whirl!
