Miracles do happen even under the water.
Meet Ruairí
24-year-old Ruairí McSorley from Londonderry, Ireland thought it was the end for him until a group of dolphins came to his rescue.
A Day At The Beach
Ruairí went for a swim in Tralee Bay on the southern Irish coast on August 24.
He Challenged Himself
In an interview with The Sun, Ruairí said, “I looked over the bay at the lighthouse and said ‘that’s my kingdom!’ and swam and swam and swam. I thought ‘this will be a great way to challenge myself.’”
Swimming Back
When he got to the lighthouse, he celebrated for about 20 minutes, and then he started to swim back.
People Started To Worry
While Ruairí was having a great time completing his challenge, people on the beach started worrying when someone had retrieved a pile of clothes, so a neighbor reported Ruairí missing.
He Started Worrying Too
Ruairí recalled, “As I was swimming I saw some black fins, the first thing I thought to myself was, ‘why didn’t I google whether Southern Ireland had sharks?'”
His Saving Grace
It turns out, the fins he saw were not of sharks. A pod of dolphins had surrounded Ruairí and they became his comfort in the middle of the strange sea.
He Got Rescued
The Fenit Royal National Lifeboat Institution had been searching for Ruairí for hours, but they were having a hard time because of the vast area and it’s already getting dark.
Thanks to the pod of dolphins, the rescuers’ attention was caught, leading to Ruairí’s miraculous rescue.
