When a kid is taught what to do during emergencies, we can trust that they’re going to do the responsible thing when there are no other adults around.
Meet Catherine And Emma
Catherine has a three-year-old daughter named Emma and is also expecting a baby boy.
Her Daughter Is Her Hero
Catherine didn’t know her little daughter was going to save her life during an unexpected incident.
She Just Got Home
One day, when she had just returned home from the hospital after a check-up, Catherine was walking down the stairs when she slipped and fell all the way down.
Emma Knew What To Do
Catherine could not get up and was hoping that her baby was ok. Emma heard the noise and came into the hallway, and instead of crying or panicking, she immediately picked up the phone and dialed 999.
She Talked To The Operator
Emma told Sarah Morris, the call handler at the ambulance service, “Mummy fall down the stairs,” and also said that there was also a baby with her.
Help Is On Its Way
Sarah asked Emma to go up to her mom and asked how old the baby was. Emma said, “It’s in mummy’s tummy.” Then they talked about how her mom had hurt herself, and Sarah told Emma that an ambulance was on its way.
She Took Care Of Mom
Sarah told Emma to tell her mom to stay really still and that help was coming. She then heard Emma say the exact words to Catherine. After a few minutes, Sarah asked Emma what was happening, and the little girl said that she was giving her mom a cuddle.
All Is Well
The first responders arrived. They took Catherine and Emma to the hospital where they found out that her fall caused premature labor, but the doctors were able to give Catherine some meds that prevented her baby from being born 7 weeks early.
Brave Little Girl
They all went home safely and news of Emma’s heroism started spreading. The South Western Ambulance Service gave Emma a bravery certificate.
