When communities stand up for one another, burdens suddenly become lighter.
Meet Jaylan And Julian
22-year-old Jaylan and 12-year-old Julian Gray are brothers from Katy, Texas who received such a heart-melting gift from their community.
Their Story
The boys’ parents and grandfather passed away a few years ago and Jaylan promised his mother that he would take care of his brother, so he’s doing everything to provide everything that they need.
Household Problem
It’s given that there are struggles in terms of a 22-year-old being responsible for his 12-year-old brother, but things were made even more challenging when Hurricane Harvey hit their home in 2017.
It Needs To Be Fixed
The winter storms that followed the hurricane did not make things any easier for the two brothers. Since then, they had to live in a house that’s unsafe and uncomfortable to live in.
Katy Responds To The Rescue
Luckily, there is a local organization in Katy, Texas called “Katy Responds” that helps families without the means to have their houses repaired by collecting funds and encouraging the community to help these families recover.
Helping Jaylan And Julian
Katy Responds heard about Jaylan and Julian’s story and stepped in to repair their home.
Volunteers Came
A lot of volunteers came to help with the project they called the “Elder project”. Every day, there were new faces joining the other volunteers who are working on the Grays’ home.
Donations Came Too
Even other donors like World Changers, Parkway Fellowship, Mahindra Finance, Roofing Supply, Inc, CertainTEED, and Blue Ribbon Roofing reached out to help with the expenses and manpower of the Elder project.
Home Sweet Home
When the big day came when Jaylan and Julian finally saw the finished work, they were in awe and overwhelmed with gratitude. Jaylan said, “I love it. I’m speechless, way more than we asked for. Completely grateful.”
