The Statlers’ story offers hope to others going through comparable struggles in addition to being their own.
Meet The Proud Parents
Madison “Maddie” and Dylan Statler recently gave birth to their baby girl, Evie.
She Got Out Early
Evangeline “Evie” Statler was born a little too early – at just 23 weeks and 5 days of her mom’s pregnancy.
Long Journey
On the day she gave birth, Maddie woke up to unexpected back pain and a strange tightness. Contractions started coming in later on, and the situation turned more serious when she started bleeding.
Little Warrior
Once Evie was transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, she started showing signs of pulmonary hypertension and other complications, but despite all that, Evie kept pushing through.
Tough Call
When Evie’s heart rate started to spike, the doctors and nurses decided to conduct an emergency C-section due to a dangerous placental abruption, and despite being incredibly tiny and fragile, Evie’s first cry was a heart-stopping moment for everyone.
Her Progress
The doctors gave Evie less than a 50% chance of survival, but Maddie and Dylan decided to face this with uncertainty and hope, and eventually, Evie’s resilience and the unconditional support of her family led to a successful outcome.
His Inspiration
Dylan, an artist, used his daughter’s fight for life as an inspiration. He created paintings that beautifully symbolize hope and the longing for Evie’s homecoming.
Answered Prayers
Finally, the doctors gave Evie’s family the good news that she could already come home with them for Christmas after 9 long months in the hospital.
