Not everyone is as lucky as those who get to eat at least thrice every day, so if we’re privileged enough to offer a helping hand to less fortunate people, why not?

Depressing Statistics

More than 35 million people in the United States have experienced hunger since 2019, and feedingamerica.org said that millions of children face hunger and food insecurity every day.

Little Caesars Saw It

Staff from Little Caesars in Fargo, North Dakota saw how many people dig through their dumpster to find food.

Michelle Lusier, Little Caesar’s general manager, said that too many people are already forced to stand on the corner for a handout or dig through the trash to look for thrown-away food.

So They Did Something About It

The employees, together with the franchise owner, Jenny Stevens, decided to put a note on the shop’s window. It says, “You’re a human being and worth more than a meal from a dumpster. Please come in during operating hours for a couple of slices of hot pizza and a cup of water at no charge. No questions asked.”

No Need To Be Embarrassed

Jenny said, “there’s no need for anyone to feel embarrassed when it comes to feeding their family.”

Ending Hunger

Little Caesars showed that there are many ways to end hunger, and their charitable gesture is one step toward ending hunger in the US and the world.

What We Can Do

If you are thinking of how to contribute as an individual, there are lots of networks of charities and food banks. You can also volunteer, start a fundraiser or make a donation dedicated to feeding homeless people.

A Great Example

One great example is the “Pay It Forward” movement in 2016 where customers buy coffee for themselves, but they also pay for an extra cup of coffee to be given to somebody else. Waiters then give the paid-for coffee to people who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
