14-Year-Old Golden Retriever Finds New Loving Family After Getting Dropped Off At Shelter By Former Owner

Like people, dogs need a loving support system even more when they’re at an old age. Sadly, there are heartless dog owners who choose to abandon their pets when it gets inconvenient.

Meet Sophia

Sophia is a 14-year-old Golden Retriever, who, after being abandoned by her former owner, found a new chance to have a loving family.

Her Story

Sophia’s adoption story was witnessed by Casey Newton, the founder of Friends Forever Animal Rescue Shelter in Pennellville, New York.

Final Stop

In June 2023, Sophia’s former owner arrived at Friends Forever Animal Rescue Shelter after she had been driving around to look for someone to take the senior dog.

Sad Dog

The woman said that they had to give the dog up because they were moving, and according to Casey, it was heartbreaking seeing Sophia’s face when her owner drove off and left her without even looking back.

Her Mission

Casey felt compassion for Sophia. She thought the poor dog must have been confused about her situation, wondering about what she could have done for her owner to have just abandoned her like that so she made it her mission to make Sophia feel loved and cared for.

She’s Healthy

At the time, there were no available foster families for Sophia so Casey decided to take her home with her and the first thing she did was take the senior dog to the vet to get her health checked.

Up For Adoption

Fortunately, Sophia was cleared from any health problems, and that’s good news because now the shelter could consider adopting her out.

New Family

After a few days of staying at the shelter, a veterinarian heard about Sophia’s story and decided to adopt her.

New Life

Sophia is now living her best life with her newfound family. Casey said, “It was love at first sight when he and his wife met her. She now has 800 acres and furry siblings to share her life with.”
