During His Very First Shift, He Received the Task of Locating the Missing Mom and Baby
Being just two-years-old and a recently-licensed dog with little experience thus far, Welsh police were reluctant to believe that Max was going to be successful on this task, but it was worth a shot.
Finding the One-Year-Old and Mother Was Urgent
According to Inspector Jonathan Rees-Jones, “The woman had not been seen or spoken to for two days, which was out of character, and her phone wasn’t working, so naturally concern for her safety was high.”
The Dyfed-Powys Police Learned that the Duo Spent the Night in a Remote Area
The goal was for Max and his handler, PC Peter Lloyd, to search the Powys, Wales location for the mother and child to bring them back home where they belong.
Despite Being New on the Job, Max Was Eager to Do the Best Job Possible
“This is where PD Max’s tracking skills really came into play. Despite only recently becoming licensed, and on his first operational shift, he immediately commenced an open area search.”
The Search Ended Up Being a Success
Ultimately, both the mother and child were found. The mother was spotted waving for help near a steep gorge near the mountainside.
Thanks to Max’s Nose, the Mom and Child Were Quickly Found
If it weren’t for Max’s keen sense of smell, the mother and infant may not have been found within just an hour and a half of searching. That’s impressive!
Both Were Checked By Paramedics and are Deemed Okay
While the two were cold upon being found, medical professionals say that both of the them will make a full recovery.

“This was a fantastic coordinated and determined team effort from everyone involved, (but) I must give a special mention to PC Pete Lloyd and Max, who on their very first day since completing their training together covered a significant amount of mileage in the search, eventually locating them safe.”
