Meet Willa
5-year-old Willa Fitzgerald from Keller, Texas was excited to celebrate her birthday with classmates and friends but she almost went home disappointed that day.
Save The Date
She was celebrating her birthday at Hat Creek Burger Company and she invited a group of her friends from school to share the special day with.
But No One Came
Sadly, twenty minutes had passed since the supposed start of her birthday party, and not a single guest had arrived yet. This made her mom, Alexa, extremely worried.
What Happened?
Alexa was wondering what could have happened as 30% of the people they invited RSVP’d “yes” to their invitation. She said, “I’m thinking to myself, no, this cannot be what’s happening. As a mom, the last thing I want is for my daughter, for the first time ever at 5 years old, to experience that type of social rejection — honestly, that’s what it is.”
Her First Heartbreak
Alexa’s heart was sinking at the sight of the sadness on her daughter’s face, and she was thinking of how to salvage the day for her.
Come, Celebrate With Us
Alexa took to Facebook and made a desperate plea to the Keller neighborhood group. She asked if anyone might be willing to join in and celebrate Willa’s special day with them. She wrote, “If anyone has young kids and is looking for something to do right now, no one showed up to my daughter’s birthday party. It’s her first (and likely last) party. We’d love to celebrate with you.”
People Came
To her surprise, people started arriving at the restaurant in just a few minutes. “The entire restaurant was packed with families who refused to let my daughter celebrate alone,” Alexa said.
They’re Here For Her
Grandparents, empty nesters, teenagers, and even random strangers came to make Willa’s birthday special, and it was incredible.
A Great Day, Afterall
Many of the guests even brought gifts, while some formed friendships with Willa and graciously invited her to their own upcoming birthday celebrations as well.
