Teacher Gets Fired For Giving Failing Grades To Students Who Don’t Do The Work

Meet Diane

Diane Tirado has been teaching kids for almost twenty years.

The West Gate K-8 School

Diane got a new job at the West Gate K-8 School in Port St. Lucie, Florida but little did she know that hard times were about to unfold in the coming weeks.

The Students’ Duty

Every student has the responsibility of attending their class and submitting their homework on time.

A History Homework

When Diane was teaching her students about historical explorers, she gave them homework to keep a notebook in the style of the explorers they’d been studying and gave the students two weeks to work on it.

But The Parents Oppose

Soon enough, parents started calling to say that the homework was too difficult for eighth-graders to work on.

The Students Didn’t Turn It In

When the day of submission came, Diane was shocked to find out that some students turned in absolutely nothing, so she did what she thought was right and gave those students a failing grade.

The No-Fail Policy

The next day, Diane was called into the principal’s office where she was informed that the school’s policy was to never give out 0% even if a student refuses to hand in any work. The lowest grade she could give out was 50% even if a student did nothing.

Diane Was Let Go

Diane stood by her conviction to give students the grade that they deserved, so the school fired her after the incident.

On Her Last Day

While Diane was in her classroom on her last day at work, she left a farewell message on the whiteboard for the kids to read the next day.
