When they say that “Honesty is the best policy,” they probably aren’t joking, for having an honest character might bring you to places.
Meet Elmer
Elmer Alvarez was homeless but he is one of the most honest people out there.
Doing The Right Thing
He found a $10000 check in New Haven, Connecticut, and even though the money could have solved a lot of his problems, he still decided to do the right thing and look for its rightful owner.
Finding Roberta
Elmer learned that the money belonged to a real estate agent named Roberta Hoskie. The check had slipped out of Roberta’s pocket while she was at a busy intersection and only realized it was gone until the next day.
Her Grateful Heart
Roberta was moved by Elmer’s action and she decided to give back by paying for him to go to real estate school and then offered him to become an employee in her company.
Temporary Home
She also found him an apartment and paid for the rent for 7 months.
Her Personal Story
Roberta shared that she used to be a high school dropout that was struggling to raise a child as a single mother who lived in a shelter with only $400 to raise her son.
An Opportunity
Someone gave her a job as a real estate agent which led to the success she experiences now, so she wanted to do the same for Elmer.
A New Beginning
Roberta decided to record the day Elmer found out that he passed his real estate exam, so in a few days, Elmer was about to start working as a real estate agent and starting a brand new life.
