Having a child doesn’t have to stop you from chasing your dreams. Some people find ways to share their passion with their kids so they can chase their dreams together.
Meet Cynthia
Cynthia Kudji immigrated to the US from Ghana when she was just 17 years old, and ever since, her dream was to become a doctor.
Unexpected Change Of Plans
Cynthia was in her final year at Tulane University studying BS in biology when she found out that she was pregnant with her daughter, Jasmine.
She Became A Mom
She got her bachelor’s degree, but she knew that the demands of medical school would not be possible for her to meet while she was raising her baby so she decided to focus on Jasmine instead.
A Student And Mom
Cynthia raised Jasmine while attending William Carey University to become a nurse. She got a Master’s degree in nursing at Loyola University in 2006 and worked as a nurse for a decade.
Chasing Their Dreams
When Jasmine grew up, Cynthia finally got to enter medical school. On the other hand, Jasmine attended Louisiana State University and majored in English while doing pre-med coursework, and eventually, she went to medical school as well.
Med School Buddies
Cynthia attended the University of Medicine and Health Sciences on the island of St. Kitts while her daughter was in New Orleans at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. They would study together through Skype.
One Step Closer
The mother and daughter both graduated from med school in 2020, and now they need to complete a residency where Cynthia has chosen Family Medicine as her specialty while Jasmine has chosen General Surgery.
They’re Inseparable
When “Match Day” came, the mother-daughter duo found out via e-mail that they had both been placed at Louisiana State University Health to complete their residency, and they’re both excited to be in the same place to get through this crucial part of their careers.
