We all have painful stories we are not happy reminiscing, but whether we believe it or not, these stories helped us become who we are today.
Meet Anica
Katey Day-Reick, also known as Anica, is a talented singer from Grand-Barachois, New Brunswick.
Her Past
She had a difficult past. She suffered abuse from her family, which sent her to foster homes.
Different Families
She lived in nine foster homes, and the only thing that gave her hope and helped her survive everything was music. Her last foster family was kind enough to give her a guitar in support of her passion.
She Became A Performer
Anica decided to hold onto her passion for music. She’s been performing for more than 40 years now.
A Brave Step
This year, she decided to join Canada’s Got Talent to share her music and her story.
They Connect With Each Other
Anica had a quick chat with host Lindsay Ell backstage before her performance, and they had a special connection as Lindsay had also been through the same hardships as Anica.
Glorious Performance
The talented singer sang her rendition of Sia’s “Unstoppable.” She belted out the notes with so much emotion as she played her guitar. Everyone in the room seemed to have felt what she was feeling that time by just listening to her voice.
They Were Impressed
The judges and the audience gave her a standing ovation at the end of her performance. They were all cheering and chanting “golden buzzer” when host Lindsay walked over to the judges’ table.
She Got It
Host Lindsay was evidently moved by Anica’s performance. She said, “As someone who is a survivor and has also been through so much in her childhood, I know what it is like to go through difficulty and be able to channel it into something like music,” before pressing the golden buzzer.
