Most of us dream of living up to a hundred years, and some people are lucky enough to.
Meet Mercy
Mercy Ballard is about to turn 100 years old, and her close friend has something in store for her.
Her Friend
Her friend, Ben Bird, who’s been a garbage man for many years started talking to the kind old lady who lives at one of the homes on his route.
Their 10-Minute Chitchats
Every Thursday, Ben would arrive and walk up Mercy’s path where he would say, “Where’s my favorite lady?” Mercy would then open the door to talk to him. Ben said, “I empty the bin, come back up, and then we have 10 minutes, don’t we, just to talk.”
Ben’s Promise
One day, Mercy mentioned that she was in her 90s, so Ben said that he would have to sing “Happy Birthday” to her when she turns 100.
The Day Came
On the day of Mercy’s 100th birthday, Ben came to a local bakery, picked out a cake for her, and brought his colleagues to sing “Happy Birthday” to the old woman.
Tears Of Joy
Mercy couldn’t help but cry tears of joy because of the gentlemen’s kind gesture.
Up To 105
Ben walked up to Mercy and asked her to make a wish. He jokingly requested that she should wish to live to 105 while the old woman’s funny response to this was a simple, “Shut up!”
They Got Interviewed
A local news crew arranged an interview with the unlikely friends. Their setup was on Mercy’s sofa where she and Ben were sitting in front of the birthday card from The Queen.
