Friendly store employees make everyone’s day brighter.
Meet Rita
Ms. Rita Burns is one of the lovable cashiers who make your day at the store brighter.
Getting Her Lightbulbs
On September 7, Rina Liou made a dash to a Walgreens in Houston, Texas for the first time to get some lightbulbs.
How She’ll Pay
In the haste of dashing out the door, Rina had picked up her husband’s phone instead of her wallet. She knew her husband had Apple Pay, so she stood at the checkout, trying to figure out how to use the app.
Saving The Day
When Ms. Rita noticed Rina’s anxiety, she swooped in and told Rina that she’d pay for her purchase. This was despite the fact that she’d just paid off her own bills that day, and only had $20 left in her account.
Paying Her Back
After that, Rina returned home, fetched her wallet, drove straight back to Walgreens, paid Ms. Rita back, gave her a bunch of flowers and a thank-you note, snapped a photo with Ms. Rita, and then shared her story to Nextdoor.
Locals Love Her
Rina shared her encounter with Ms. Rita and found out that hundreds of locals in Houston were familiar with her and agreed that she’s one of the kindest people they know.
“Rita Is The Best!”
A lot of people left their comments on Rina’s post about Ms. Rita’s kindness. One of the comments said, “Rita is the best!! She is such a lovely person and always remembers me by name and always asks how my mom is doing.”
Helping Ms. Rita
There was so much love and respect for Ms. Rita that a fundraiser was set up in her name. Over $20,500 was raised for the kind cashier, which is a life-changing amount of money for her.
