The feeling of belongingness in a family is priceless. Everyone longs to have people we consider as family.
A Compassionate System
Foster care is a system where a minor is usually taken into the private home of a state-certified caregiver, also called a “foster parent” or with a family member approved by the state.
Her Unique Calling
A woman named Katie Holstein who lives in Kentucky started the process to become licensed as a foster parent in January 2017.
A Parent To Many Children
After getting approved, she’s took care of a total of 16 children in just three years.
Her Big Decision
After realizing that she has a gift of taking care of little children, Katie finally decided to adopt a one-month-old baby named Thomas.
It Was Followed By A Surprise
While Katie was taking care of her son Thomas, together with a few other foster children, the social worker she most frequently worked with called her and offered her to take in another “child”.
She Was Reluctant At First
Katie was hesitant at first about fostering teenagers, but when she found out that Akyra was a great girl, she lovingly took her in her home as well.
She Loves Having Her Around
At first, Akyra was just a guest in Katie’s house, but when they bonded and the lady of the household saw that everyone loved having Akyra around, she decided to foster her for real.
Her Family Is Getting Bigger
As time went by, Katie and Akyra formed a deeper bond. The foster parent finally decided to officially adopt Akyra three days before her 17th birthday. Together with little Thomas, they are now a happy family of three, and Katie is still looking forward to adopting two more children in the future.
