Deaf And Blind Dog Forms A Close Bond With Adopted Deaf Puppy

Dogs are the sweetest animals on earth! They aren’t only a man’s best friend, but they are also capable of showing affection to one another.

Meet Yakoo And Nuka

Yakoo and Nuka are adoptive siblings who have formed a special kind of friendship wherein they support each other through their disabilities.

Their Owner

Eric only used to have Yakoo, a deaf and blind dog, and he was looking for a brother or a sister for him when he heard about Nuka.

Looking For A Family

Nuka came from a unique program in Georgia that paired puppies with inmates to be trained. Her mother passed away in a car accident, and she and her siblings were left without a home.

He Chose Her

Nuka was the last puppy left in the program because she was deaf, but Eric decided to drive miles from Florida to Georgia to adopt her.

Protective Sister

Nuka’s name means “little sister,” and she’s really playing the part. She’s protective of Yakoo that whenever they wandered away from their owner, she would fetch him and bring him back.

How They Communicate

Eric has developed a unique way to communicate with his dogs. He taught them through sign language, tactile cues, and Montessori techniques, and he has come up with a command for Nuka to “go get your brother,” which she has quickly learned.

Preparing For The Worst

Eric has also made sure that Nuka understood tactile commands because she might lose her sight in the future as well because of her double merle gene.

Happy Family

Eric loves the life that he has with his two loving dogs. Through them, he learned that communication is not limited to words but it is also about body language and deep understanding.
