Mama Dalmatian Gives Birth To 16 Puppies

Giving birth is one of the special abilities that women have.

Unexpected Number

A dog owner in Texas was surprised when her Dalmatian gave birth to a total of 16 puppies.

Luna In Labor

The dog’s name is Luna and she went into labor around midnight so her owner helped her deliver five puppies through the night, but by 7 o’clock in the morning, things had slowed to a stop.

Getting Help

Luna’s owner called the Fredericksburg Veterinary Center in Texas and took her in. Dr. Turner was the one who helped with the delivery of Luna’s babies.

Something Was Wrong

Luna was rushed into surgery after they found out that the sixth puppy had become breeched, and when they looked inside, they saw that there were a lot more puppies still to come.

Pups Kept Coming Out

Dr. Turner said in an interview that she would say, “There surely can’t be anymore!” during delivery but puppies kept on coming out of Luna’s womb.

The Final Count

Soon, the delivery was over and they were able to get a final count of the puppies. Five were delivered naturally, and then another 11 via c-section. So Luna gave birth to a total of 16 puppies.

Safe And Sound

The clinic wrote, “We are happy to report that all 16 puppies and mom are doing great following surgery. It wasn’t 101 Dalmatians, but it was enough for us to have our hands full this morning!!”

Almost A Record

The world record for most puppies a Dalmatian has given birth to is 19. Luna was 3 puppies short but still, 16 is a big number and is a lot of puppies to handle in a single household.
