Having a loving dad is one of the best things in the world. There are kids who were not given the chance to meet or be with their fathers, so having a dad who’s always there for you is indeed a blessing nowadays.

Rick Daynes from California is a dad to several kids, including Eli who has special needs.

Eli has autism and Down Syndrome, making it difficult for him to communicate with others and learn new things.

A Common Problem

As a student, Eli has to ride the bus to and from school, and it can be hard for him to enjoy the trip as only a few kids understand his condition. To add to that, there has been a bus driver shortage in their city so Rick’s kids, including Eli, get home much later than usual.

He Stepped Up

To make sure that his kids get home earlier and more safely, Rick decided to get bus-driving classes so there would be one extra bus on the streets to help the kids get home from school.

A Crucial Job

This experience made Rick appreciate bus drivers even more as he now understands that the kids’ lives are in his hands while he’s behind the wheel. It was also mandatory for him to learn about first aid in case of an emergency while on the road.

His Reaction

One of the most memorable events for Rick as a bus driver was when he surprised Eli at school. He pulled up and his son got on the school bus surprised that it was his dad who would be driving him home.

The Kids Love Him

Rick loves driving for the kids, and the students love him too! He made a post on Facebook, saying, “They were not allowed to film the kids, but just know that behind me is a bus full of kids, all with different disabilities, cultures, and backgrounds. And they all have their hands in the air screaming/laughing like they are on a ride at Disneyland. SO MUCH FUN!”

Watch how Rick went the extra mile to make sure his kids get home safely in the video below.
