A father-daughter dance on a wedding day is one of the most touching events to see.
Meet Mary
Mary Bourne Roberts is probably one of the luckiest brides. She got to dance with the most important man in her life on her wedding day, and we’re not just talking about her husband here.
Dad And Daughter
If there is someone every little girl first fell in love with, it’s their father.
Bonding Through Dancing
Mary and her dad, Jim, have always danced together. When she was little, they would dance around the kitchen.
Their Jam
Mary and Jim would dance around to the hit song, “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack which talks about taking chances and never giving up.
A Loving Promise
The song meant a lot to Mary and Jim so they made a promise that they would play it at her wedding someday during the father-daughter dance.
Dance Has Become Her Passion
Mary majored in dance at the University of Alabama and ended up receiving a job at a dance academy, and now she’s getting married.
Jim’s Condition
Jim was unfortunately diagnosed with glioblastoma, an incurable brain cancer, so Mary moved closer to home so she could be there for him, and when the wedding day had finally arrived, Jim had just entered Hospice care.
Keeping His Promise
Mary moved up her wedding date so her father could be present, and he was! He appeared at Mary’s wedding in a wheelchair and held her hand while they danced to their song “I Hope You Dance.”
A Touching Event
Mary held Jim’s hand while she wheeled him around the dancefloor and leaned down to kiss his cheek several times. The beautiful moment was recorded by their photographer as guests held back their tears while watching them.
That’s Their Last Dance
Sadly, Jim passed away less than two weeks after Mary’s wedding, but Mary knew that her wedding dance is one of the wonderful things that will remind her of her father.
