It’s nice to know that you’re living in a safe community and you’re surrounded by kind and helpful people.
Meet Stephen
Stephen Garofalo had been delivering mail to a community in New Jersey for many years.
He’s Friends With Everyone
Stephen is an important part of the community that he delivers mail to and everyone knows him by name.
An Incident
One morning, he was delivering the mail when he saw a two-year-old boy outside his home, looking troubled. The child recognized Stephen, so he looked at him for help.
Rushing To Help
Stephen asked the child why he was outside alone and where his mom was. The child pointed to his home and Stephen called into it but received no answer so he walked inside to see what happened.
Mom Is In Trouble
The boy’s mother, Stephanie Wilson, was lying on the ground, unconscious so he dialed 911 and told the first responders to arrive as soon as possible.
Making Sure She’s Okay
Stephen checked Stephanie’s vital signs and put her in the recovery position. After that, he turned to the child and comforted him that everything was going to be all right.
She’s Grateful
They soon discovered that Stephanie had an adverse reaction to her new medication, and she is more than thankful that the mailman was in the right place at the right time to help her.
Recognizing A Hero
The US Postal Service rewarded Stephen with a rare honor – the Life-Saving Award, in recognition of what he did on that day.
