No one, even animals, deserves to live a life in captivity, let alone be used as a form of entertainment.

Some concerned citizens contacted Save Wild Foundation to rescue Chada from her horrible living condition.

A Sanctuary

The foundation’s staff, led by zoologist Marina, brought Chada to the Wild Rock Bear Shelter, a sanctuary for rescued bears and wolves in Kyiv, Ukraine that provide medical rehabilitation for animals that were rescued from establishments or businesses that use them for entertainment and profiteering.

After 20 Years

Marina witnessed the emotional moment when Chada laid on the ground and raised her head to bask in the sun, which might be her first time feeling a ray of sunshine after living in a cage for 20 years.

She Loves Her New Home

Chada now enjoys her life in the shelter where she has a vast space to run around, a den and warm box for winter, and a small swimming pool, which is her favorite part of her enclosure.

She’s Underweight

It’s just sad to think that Chada is quite small and underweight for her breed and age. Usually, an Ursus arctos isabellinus is often 9.19 feet and 456.36 pounds, but Chada is only 260 pounds because she lived inside a small cage for most of her life.

She’s Getting By

Despite everything she’s been through, Chada is now happy with her new life in the sanctuary. She communicates with other bears and wolves over her fence and splashes the water in her pool all the time. Sometimes, though, her being “a grandma” comes out and she gets grumpy when the other bears and wolves are noisy when she’s trying to rest or take a nap.
