Life is all about taking risks. Sometimes, these risks may result in unwanted situations, but if we’re cautious enough and we’re surrounded by people who are also watching out for our safety, there’s no need to worry.
A Risky Sport
There are almost 100,000 reported gymnast injuries every year, causing gymnastics to have a high injury rate among any other sports.
Meet Cherrish
9-year-old Cherrish Remy is a talented young gymnast who almost faced a serious incident while in a competition.
She Was In Tennessee
During a competition in Tennessee, Cherrish was about to land the wrong way when a “guardian angel” saved her.
The Usual Routine
Cherrish ran up to a springboard head-on, jumped off it, and sprung into the air, but as she was about to land, people saw that she was off the mark.
Coach Chad To The Rescue
Cherrish was falling away from the safety mats into the hard floor when her coach, Chad Buczek, ran up to her as she was still in the air and grabbed her so she wouldn’t hit the floor.
Mom Was Worried
Justine Remy, Cherrish’s mother, was recording the whole thing, and she admitted, “It was terrifying. I instantly broke out into a sweat.”
It Wasn’t The First Time
A lot of people commended coach Chad for his heroic act but he said that this wasn’t the first time that he’s caught a young gymnast who missed the mark, and it would also not be the last.
She’s Unstoppable
Despite what happened, Cherrish still continued to practice gymnastics. With the risks of the sport still in mind, the best things a gymnast like her can do to avoid injuries are to practice strength training and stretch several times a day.
