Losing someone who’s dear to us is really devastating.
Up In The Mountain
Kristin was hiking up in the White Mountains when she saw something stumbling around.
It’s A Chipmunk
When she realized that it was a newborn chipmunk, Kristin sat with it for about a half-hour to see if its mom would come around.
She Took Him Home
After a while, she took the chipmunk home and named him Kip. She said, “We had just seen a couple of garter snakes on the trail, so we just wanted to make sure he was safe. If we had left him, he would’ve been eaten!”
Taking Care Of Him
Kristin called her vet tech friend to figure out how to take care of the chipmunk but they didn’t give him a very good chance and said that the first couple of weeks would be critical.
He Got A Friend
Despite Kip’s health situation, the good news was Kristin’s 115-pound dog Charlie formed such a strong bond with the tiny creature that weighed less than a single pound.
Affectionate Doggo
Charlie would come nose to nose with Kip and would just nuzzle him while he was eating. Kristin said of Kip, “I think he thought of Charlie as like a mother or a comfort he always wanted to be right next to Charlie.”
A Tragic Event
Eventually, Kirstin noticed that Kip was physically slower than he should be. She reached out to some vets for advice but Kip was becoming lethargic, until one day he went to sleep and didn’t wake up the next morning.
Giving Him A New Friend
Charlie was devastated by Kip’s passing away, so Kristin hooked him up with a stuffed animal chipmunk and he fell in love with it and carried it everywhere with him.
