It’s good that old people find activities to keep them occupied and moving. They need it to keep their bodies and minds healthy.
Meet Mildred
Mildred Wilson, AKA “Muddy Mildred,” is a one-of-a-kind grandma who loves joining challenging races at her old age of 83.
How It Started
Mildred first joined the Tough Mudder race in 2019 after she watched her son, Danny, finish the race in Las Vegas.
Her Go Signal
Danny asked her if she wanted to do it too and she said yes, so she went to her doctor to get permission and started the training at the local YMCA.
Her Support System
On the day of the race, her husband, Farrell, and other family and friends showed up to support and cheer for her. She’s specifically fond of her husband who, she said, was her best supporter. She said, “Anything I decide to do, he pretty much lets me do it.”
He’s Gone
Sadly, Farrell passed away in 2020, so Mildred decided to join the 2021 Tough Mudder race with her son, Danny, in honor of Farrell’s memory.
Race For A Cause
In 2022, Mildred competed in the Tough Mudder race to raise funds to install a water well in Africa for people who do not have access to clean water. She said, “I saw a video of the water holes some of the people have to get their water from and it’s heartbreaking. I just wanted to help, and Tough Mudder was a way to do that.”
For Tanya
Muddy Mildred also joined the race that year to honor and support her daughter-in-law, Tanya, who is battling pancreatic cancer.
A Family Affair
Mildred and Danny were joined by her niece, Maggie, and her husband, John in the previous race for the first time, and they’re looking forward to doing more of this together in the coming years.
