Love is something worth celebrating for more than a day. When you love someone, it means you are willing to do everything for and with them tirelessly even after a lot of years have passed by.

It’s easy to have a wedding. All you need are two people in love, a pair of wedding rings, and an officiant; but being married and fighting for your marriage is a lot more difficult and challenging because you have to do it every day, for years and years to come.

A beautiful couple from West Virginia named Lorraine and Ulysses proved that true love and happy marriages do exist as they celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary.

How They Met

The couple first met when Lorraine from Boone County visited Sissonville. She saw Ulysses, and “accidentally” dropped a bucket of water she was carrying from the town well, hoping that the handsome man was going to help her.

Ulysses did help the young woman. Eventually, they got together and tied the knot shortly after World War 2 ended. It was a simple but beautiful wedding where Ulysses was wearing his dress uniform, and Lorraine was a stunning bride in her red 2-piece suit.

Ulysses was still wearing his uniform, and Lorraine finally got to wear a white wedding dress. She also had a bouquet of yellow and white roses, and their witnesses were also wearing yellow outfits.

When the officiant asked Ulysses if he had anything he wanted to say to his wife, he stated no words and just went on to lean down and give his beautiful bride a big kiss.

Ulysses and Lorraine gave a piece of advice on how to maintain a happy marriage. Lorraine said, “Be sure you love each other… and it’s a 50/50 thing. It’s not an 80/20 thing, it’s 50/50.”
