When a woman is not ready to become a mom and still went through an unwanted pregnancy, there’s a high chance that the experience may cause her emotional and psychological problems.
A Woman Walked In
Frankie Aguilar, El Patron Restaurant’s owner, said that a woman carrying a newborn baby went inside his restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon.
She Looked Desperate
The woman looked troubled and she was asking the customers and staff for help as she’s just “found the newborn baby.”
A Customer Wanted To Help
A customer who’s trained in CPR, Alease Scott, offered to check the baby’s vitals and she saw that the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached, and they seemed like they had difficulty in breathing.
The Woman Fled
When all the attention was already on the baby, the woman immediately walked out of the restaurant, leaving the baby with Alease.
Saving The Baby
The restaurant staff called the police for help and they arrived with an oxygen tank and other medical gear. The baby cried, moved, opened, and closed their eyes, and started suckling the mask which meant that they were hungry.
They Found The Woman
Alease’s boyfriend, Walter Cocca, recorded what happened with his camera and the restaurant’s security cams helped the police in finding the 14-year-old woman.
She Got Detained
The authorities detained the teenager for a short while and took her to Jersey City Medical Hospital to check on her health. She did not face any charges, and her baby was put up for adoption.
Safe Haven Law
The state reminded its citizens of its Safe Haven Law which allows parents to leave their newborn babies in safe places like hospitals, police stations, and fire stations, and waives any parental rights to the child.
