When we were young, we had silly dreams like meeting Santa Claus, being able to fly, or living in a life-sized Barbie house, but this woman’s dream is not as impossible as these ones.
Meet Bertha
Bertha Komor is a 104-year-old woman who’s still living a happy and healthy life with her family.
Her Ultimate Dream
Ever since she was a little girl, Bertha has always wanted to meet and hold a penguin.
Making It Happen
Now that she’s over a hundred years old, her caretakers at the Village Gate Farmington retirement community in Connecticut, the Mystic Aquarium, and the Twilight Wish Foundation made her dream come true.
Meeting Red Green
At the Mystic Aquarium, Bertha met a baby penguin named “Red Green”.
Beyond Her Expectations
You can see the delight in Bertha’s eyes as she pets Red Green. She admitted to the penguin’s handler that it’s not everything she thought it would be.
Friendly Birds
It’s not a surprise how behaved and friendly Red Green is to his visitors for penguins are known for being super friendly with people because their main predators are all found in the water, so they feel much safer on land around us.
She’s Got Company
Bertha’s daughter and her granddaughter, Karen Rivkin, joined her for the special moment. Karen said, “I’m just so excited for her. I’m just so happy she has had this wish come true and just to have been in our life for as long as she has.”
Bertha’s Secret
When asked what her secret to a long and happy life is, Bertha said, “I don’t know. I haven’t figured that out yet.” But we’re willing to bet that this precious encounter with a penguin surely added to the happiness she has in her life right now.
