There are confusing numbers on every egg carton, and more often than not, we tend to ignore them and go for the first eggs we see, assuming that they are really the freshest ones.

The farmer revealed the meaning of these confusing numbers and illustrated an example from a grocery store where eggs have actually been sitting in the carton for 41 days.

To prove a point, the farmer went to other grocery stores as well and found that all egg cartons have the same format in the indication of the freshness of the eggs.

The freshest ones he’s found have been in the carton for 9 days, which is still a week old, while the others have been there for more than 20 days.

At the end of the video, he pointed out that the best way to be sure that you are getting really fresh eggs is to buy from a local egg producer or a family farm. If not, why not raise your own chicken to make sure you’re getting eggs that are only 45 minutes old or less.
