Hopefully, you don’t have to experience what it’s like to be this down on your luck. To be so downtrodden and abandoned and have nothing else to do, and with nowhere to go except exactly where you are. This is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone or any animal. Everyone needs some form of support and care and love.
Imagine the surprise of Hope For Paws rescuers when they got a call from a man who noticed an elderly Shar Pei wander into this vacant lot. The dog was alone and scraggly-faced, looking for a place to lie down. [googled2]
The rescuers immediately see the dog, and can tell his face is very swollen; it’s so swollen and big that when they offer him a little piece of a cheeseburger, he has trouble locating it. He’s trying to sniff around and see it, but can’t do so with ease. The owner of the lot says he just showed up today and called Hope for Paws immediately. The rescuers knew they had to do something about this poor pooch.
So, they put the “lucky leash” on their new furry friend, and gave him the name Wally. Just after putting the leash on him, he suddenly gets a burst of energy and stands up with his tail fiercely wagging. It’s at this point that the rescuers can see Wally struggle to breathe. He’s not able to take in and release air effortlessly; he’s breathing hard. Concerned about his welfare and noticing he has a microchip, a call to the owner was made. But that didn’t make much of a difference. The owner explained that Wally lives outside and kids like to aim fireworks at him. Upon this confession, when it was implied that maybe she was a little careless in how she “takes care” of her pet, The owner got angry and said she “didn’t want the old dog anyway.”
Well, lucky for Wally because he’s actually better off with his new life. After he was rescued, he received top of the line medical care, got his pneumonia treated, and got a forever home – girlfriend included! Plus, a few senior friends to hang out with! What a stunning turn of events for this pup! It’s a fairytale ending for Wally.
