“Super Bugger” Is The Historic Reimagination Of Popular VW Beetle

Volkswagen recently announced that they are stopping production of what is certainly their most iconic car — the Volkswagen Beetle. It’s still one of the most recognizable cars on the road today. When you see its cute, rounded shape coming down the highway, you know exactly what it is.

There was a time when Beetles were one of the most popular cars out there, beloved not only for the way that they looked but because they were inexpensive to buy, got great gas mileage, and were easy to work on and repair. They have gone up and down in popularity, but it’s hard to deny that the humble Beetle has been one of the most influential cars of all time.

Because there were so many of them on the road and they were simple to work on, it was pretty common for people and companies to customize them in new and unique ways. Even today, some of these modified vehicles can still be seen on the road.

Now, there are customized Beetles, and there are also Beetles that have been completely transformed into something new. While we think of the Beetle as a small, efficient car, the “Super Bugger” takes the Beetle to a whole new level!

In 1975, a third party company designed and constructed the “Super Bugger” — a cross between the classic Beetle and a small RV. It’s a Beetle with a living space, and it’s groovy! Keith and Glenna Spelrum are the proud owners of their very own ‘Super Bugger,’ and they’ve kept it in nearly perfect condition. As they explain, their “Super Bugger” may not be the biggest, most luxurious RV, but it’s an excellent conversation starter. People just can’t seem to get enough of it, even when the couple is driving, they can see the shocked faces of others passing by. Yes, it’s small, but it’s compact and it has everything you need to travel on the go or spend a couple of nights somewhere with a few creature comforts.

The couple enjoys taking it to car shows and sharing their unique piece of automobile history with other enthusiasts. It’s a pretty cool mode of transportation to say the least! You gotta see it to believe it!
