It all comes down to the people who can help you get through the tough times.
The beauty of the human spirit is that it’s not always people you know who may come to rescue. Sometimes, strangers will come around and pick you up. That’s when faith in humanity is reinvigorated.
It’s comforting to know you’ve got real-life angels looking over you in times of hardship. A reminder that there are people out there who care and want to help when you’re doing all you can and there’s nothing more to be done. And when it’s a surprise, and it catches you off guard? Well, that’s even better!
Reporter Dave Hall and the Fox5 Surprise Squad set out with a plan in mind to hit up a busy Las Vegas grocery store and spread the cheer. It’s this cheer that hit home extra hard for one unsuspecting gentleman.
The video opens to Dave in the grocery store approaching people just before they pay and check out. He starts to chat them up, get a little background then surprise them by covering the cost of their grocery bill. Then Dave meets Stephanie, a disabled veteran in a wheelchair who had barely enough money to feed herself or dogs – she was down to her last $50. Dave happily covered the cost of her bill, before meeting Larry who was with Stephanie, and is close friends with Stephanie’s husband, a truck driver always on the road.
Larry is another veteran struggling to make ends meet, who tells Dave about a charity he started which donates highly sought after blankets to homeless veterans. He started this charity after some of his brothers froze to death. Low on cash too, and only picking up two items, dish soap, and candy, Dave steps in and makes Larry’s day. “You served us, now it’s time to serve you,” he says.
