The landlord at my last apartment refused to put a camera in the laundry room, despite being informed by multiple tenants that someone was constantly stealing people's machines (we had to pay for our laundry, and at least once a week someone would come back and find that their clothes had been removed from said running washer or dryer to be used by someone else). So, the next two times this happened to me I just took the clothes out of the wash, brought them home with me, and stuffed them in a big black trash bag. Less than a week after I had stolen the second load of clothes a camera was installed. I returned the bag of now stinky clothes to the laundry room. I never had an issue with someone taking my running machine again.
