I find myself wondering if your wife is a sociopath. I would start documenting incidents like this for when you leave her and ask for full custody of your child. It's only a matter of time.
Chances are very good that your wife is not a nice person even when she is off the d***s. A twelve year old is very vulnerable. You keep doing what you have to do to protect him, because she won't.
If they can't afford the I v f treatment, how are they going to afford to raise a child? Will they then come knocking on your door again for more funds?

You are the jerk for letting other people know your financial. Information. It is your money and no one else in your family or group of friends needs to know what you are doing with your money. Including your other son.
