If times are tough then sacrifice must be made. While I believe that there is no such thing as a job beneath a person there is also no reason the kids can't do without for a bit till the family gets back on their feet. Times are tough at times and job loss happens. Even if he takes the job as a cashier and looks for a job in his area the kids they should still take them out of the stuff till they are back on their feet. Both are the jerks for not fully communicating and thinking their life has to stay the same
NTJ. Honestly if a name is old fashion it should not be used. Some names are good and seem to stand the test of time. Others just make you think of a grandma baking cookies that always have candies in her purse. But this is the big thing. Neither of you have to live with it. She will and if it's a terrible name she will be teased about it.
As for not going by a middle name. I personally am called by either or nicknames and I don't care either way
