I had a similar situation with one of my aunts. I told her not to call me Tess and she kept doing it. Luckily I was never around her much.
My dad grew up speaking Spanish and learned English at school. I wish he would have raised us to be bilingual
My grandmother could speak English and understand it but always spoke Spanish to us and we couldn't understand her.
I don't blame you for not wanting to put any effort with your dad and step mom. I'm in a situation like that with my brother. He's the only immediate family I have left. He only contacts me when he wants something or yo yell at me for something. A couple of years ago I had a painting done of two of his dogs that I thought he'd like. I asked him a couple of months later where he put it, thinking that he hung it on the wall some where. He said that it was in the closet. No appreciation whatsoever. I decided not to ever get him another birthday gift . I just got diagnosed with a serious illness and he never calls to find out how I am or if I need anything. Just stay away from people who don't care about you.
It would have been just as easy for them to go to the nearest store and get allergy medicine than to take you home. Either way they were going to be unhappy. Unhappy about Lucy being there or unhappy about your night terrors waking them up. They need to be more understanding of your situation.
