No one should be abused, whether they are living there for free or not. I lived with my parents for a while so I could get back on my feet, 9 hour working day, I did pay them rent, I was tired when I came home from work, but my dad would call me every five minutes for things he could do for himself, he just wanted his daughter to be his servant, because 'women were created to serve' in his opinion. The remote, it's two feet away easier to call me out of my bedroom to get it for him. I would ask him if there's anything else he needs. No. Five minutes later, I'm called again. Every five minutes. Get him a blanket, take the dog out, tip his chair back, take his socks off, help your mother, vacuum the house. I couldn't even poop in peace, because the moment I was in there to do so, he's screaming my name, even when I told him I was going to be in the bathroom. That is abuse! Every day I lived there. My mum got it worse from him, I remember she had a hysterectomy and was on the couch after she came home from surgery resting and he said, "Get me a beer." she got up and went and got him one and he burst out laughing afterwards and said, "I was just joking." Don't judge a situation unless you have been in it yourself, and even then, you don't have full details.
I remember working for McDonalds back in the late 1980's in Roseville, Minnesota and an elderly gentleman butted in front of a whole bunch of customers and demanded a 'cheeseburger to go.' My manager didn't put up with it. She judged that there were at least 7 to 8 people ahead of him. She ignored him, served the next person, while he kept saying each time, "Cheeseburger to go." Each time the next person stepped up, the elderly gentleman would pipe up, "Cheeseburger to go." and was ignored. When the manager cleared those customers, she finally turned to him and said, "Yes, sir?" "Cheeseburger to go." She rang him up, I got the food and handed it to him and we both busted a gut after he left from laughing. Thank you, Donna. I still remember that after all these years!
We have a local Midas that does that same thing, trying to rip customers off for work that they don't need on their vehicles. I refused to ever go back there for an oil change when they told me that my tires needed rotating. I looked the liar straight in the eyes and said, "I just had them rotated 2 days ago by another business!" The guy looked sheepish, glanced at the paperwork and tried to make up a lame excuse, "Oh, you have front wheel drive. Those idiots back there!" Yeah, right, buddy. He then turned to the gentleman next to me and told him about 'repairs' he needed as well. After he left, I told the gentleman that they pull this all the time with customers, trying to get more money out of them. Please don't fall for it.
