What do you mean Hannalore?
When you put someone down as a reference you're giving them permission to tell the prospective employer what they think of you, what their experience with you is.
OP was being very kind by saying he doesn't know him. Because the other alternative was for him to tell the truth about how he was a bully, a bad team player etc.
And nothing prevented the other person from seeking work elsewhere. It's not like OP ruined the guys reputation.
Catnip is a fairly prolific weed. Perfect revenge.
The egos on some attorneys are unbelievable. I worked answering phone calls as a civil servant giving public information in a field that had many attorneys calling me for information. They took umbrage when I would make them wait their turn to acquire information, treating the plebe public as if they were due equal respect as them. Many times I was given the information by them about how precious and more important their time was then other people's. Often they informed me of how many hundreds of dollars they charged their clients per hour as proof of how important their time was. I took to saying sweetly "That's nice." which drove them crazy.
I never budged. They never got special treatment from me. It drove them crazy that someone who earned in a year less then what they earned in a week had so much power over them.
Well at least he got 60 days of rent free living. He can't complain about that.
