Two Depressed Dogs Find Comfort In One Another

When your life takes a sudden turn for the worst, it’s hard to cope with the sudden string of events that follow. What was once stable has become shaky, and what happens next is anybody’s guess. It’s easy to fall into a downward spiral and feel unsure about how to react or what to do next or where to go or who to turn to. In a moment of need, a friend, or even a stranger who can lend a helping hand, can be the difference between the road to despair or healing.

This behavior is true for humans, but even dogs feel it on some level. We are all sentient beings who experience a full spectrum of emotion. So when this poor pup went from having a happy, healthy life to being torn from his family and given away, in the darkest hour, a small but promising ray of hope was able to break through.

Miley was all smiles, not knowing the full gravity of her new arrangements. Her family brought her to the North Central Shelter in Los Angeles, California, unable to care for her and with no intention of coming back to pick her up. This is where Miley’s attitude and behavior changed.

She became distant. Not playful with the other dogs. She withdrew completely and stayed in the corner with her head against the wall, heartbroken and lonely. It was thought that Miley’s behavior could be a health concern, but the shelter confirmed it was depression.

Then there was Marley, a fellow dog who has the same story – she was surrendered by her family, not once, but twice, and was adopted by the North Central Shelter two years prior.

The two abandoned doggies found comfort and solace in each other, spending a little more time together and forging a friendship through their hardship. It wasn’t long before word spread that these two homeless dogs could use a little TLC, and a rescue group came out to take them in. The Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles took them in to help them find forever homes! And until then, and hopefully after, they’ve got each other to get through the tough and soon-to-be happy times.

We’re so glad that these two dogs found forever friends and someone to spend their happy days with!
