There’s something very special about coming in contact with something that you’ve been trying to find but never could. For months or even years, you may long for that particular item or whatever it is you’re searching for. Then when and if you finally find it, you can’t help but do a little happy dance.
I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what the person who found a hidden treasure chest in the Rocky Mountains last week did. For over a decade, the chest, which contained gold, diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, had been buried as part of a treasure hunt put together by now-89-year-old art and antique collector, Forrest Fenn. But now that it has been found, the finder, as well as random people around the world, are rejoicing!
Fenn is also thrilled that the chest he had hidden has been finally discovered by an anonymous man.
On his website, he shared, “It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago,” Fenn wrote. “I do not know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot.”
Although Fenn and the rest of the public are not aware of the identity of the person who found it, Fenn did mention that this individual is from back east. And to prove that the treasure chest was in fact found, he, as directed, sent a picture to Fenn, who had confirmed it to be the exact chest he hid many years ago.
According to Fenn, the contents inside the chest add up to over a million dollars at best estimate. The chest was originally hidden as a way to help people during the Great Recession. Hunting for the hidden chest would give people something to look forward to, get them out and about in the fresh air, and if they found it, assist them financially.
As expected, a large number of people came out to look for the chest, knowing very little about the chest’s whereabouts other than what they learned from hints in a 24-line poem written by Fenn. It was estimated that number of people who looked for the chest was about 350,000 at most. Some of those people quit their job to search for the chest full time. Others lost their lives while partaking in the hunt.
Of course, there were many losers and only one winner.
Nonetheless, Fenn has some positive words of encouragement for those who were not successful on the hunt: “I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the search and hope they will continue to be drawn by the promise of other discoveries.”
With the odds of finding the chest very slim, the man who came across it is one lucky fella!
