It seems that when we were younger, we often wished that we could grow up faster. We looked at adults, older siblings, and other older children as heroes of a sort. At a very young age, it was hard to believe that we would ever grow up. We wanted to be able to go out with our friends whenever; we wanted the liberty of sleeping late and taking no naps; we also awaited the moment where we could pick up the keys, jump into the family car, and drive off.
When we were little, watching adults eat what they wanted, buy what they wanted, and do what we thought was whatever they wanted was something we wished and hoped for. We didn’t realize at the time that while the adults and older kids looked like they had everything, that freedom comes with a healthy a dose of responsibility. Being a responsible adult isn’t an easy job, but of course, as children, this idea isn’t something that we digest.
We know now that being an adult means paying bills, going to work, and worrying about an endless number of things on any given day. Even being an older child or teen means going to school, homework, tests, navigating relationships and friendships, and planning for adulthood. Many teens and adults realize that they wish they could go back to a time when everything is simpler, and it’s someone else’s responsibility to take care of the hard stuff. What looked like taking the keys and driving off to wherever you wanted sometimes just means that there’s no food in the fridge and you have guests coming over in 15 minutes — there’s nothing fun about that!
Being a little kid or a toddler means that someone else makes sure that you eat and sleep. Your only responsibilities are playing with your toys, learning about the world around you, and discovering new things. You have the adoring attention of your parents who are impressed by anything you do — including your first attempts at performing.
The little girl in this video looks like she wants to be a singer when she grows up. In her parents, she has the perfect audience, and she’s so adorable that they had to share her with the world. She belts out her favorite lullaby with all of the passion of a diva!
