Tiny Chihuahua Who Can’t Walk Forms Strong Friendship With Pigeon Who Can’t Fly

There’s nothing more beautiful than a solid, healthy friendship between two or more individuals. Reading that previous statement, you probably thought about the bond you share with your best friend. However, people aren’t the only ones who have friends. Animals, too, form companionships with other critters all the time.

Herman the Pigeon and Lundy the chihuahua are an excellent example of that. They might not be the same type of animal, and they certainly aren’t related in any way, but they’re the best of friends, and that’s all that matters.

But one thing that does bring them a little closer is the fact that they were both rescued.

The pigeon was taken in and surveyed by wildlife experts after she was found at a Hilton, New York, car dealership lying on the sidewalk for three days straight. Immediately, the specialists noticed that she was exhibiting signs of a neurological problem, hence why she was unable to fly away.

Because the staff deemed Herman untreatable, they decided euthanization would be the best route. Before they could follow through, Sue Rogers, founder of Rochester-based charity, The Mia Foundation, volunteered to take the bird in. Rogers already had experience caring for animals with disabilities and malformations, so rehabilitating Herman would be something she could do.

Herman not only now has a new lease on life, but he was recently introduced to his now-pal Lundy the chihuahua.

Lundy, like Herman, is unable to get around on his own. After his South Carolina owners discovered that he couldn’t walk due to swimmer’s syndrome, they surrendered him to The Mia Foundation for proper care.

Now, the furry fella and feathered friend are best buds!

“I never imagined the pictures of Lundy and Herman would touch so many people! Almost 5 million people in a little over 24 hours!! Their little story is being shared all over the world!” Rogers shared.

Rogers is overwhelmed with joy at just how many people fell in love with Lundy and Herman’s friendship. She’s also very grateful for the number of donations coming into her organization, which will come in handy soon.

“And thank you also for the donations coming in,” she continued. “We really do need them as we have a few surgeries coming up soon! It brings me to tears to think that our little Herman (the pigeon) is known worldwide now! I’ve been called crazy for keeping Herman alive and trying to make his life a happy one. And Lundy… well, who wouldn’t love that sweet little nugget?”

Below, you can see adorable clips and images of the two critters. They don’t want to leave one another’s side, like two peas in a pod!
