When you’re working day in and day out, night and day, life just feels like it’s running its course right past you. You’re in a loop of wake up, get dressed, go to work, eat, sleep and repeat. Plus, if you’re a single mom supporting four children and living in Sydney, Australia, you’re making sure everyone else’s needs are taken care of before your own.
Tina is often taking night shifts at the grocery store so she can make more money to help support her family. Little does she know the big surprise that awaits her around the corner.
It’s Mother’s Day and radio station KIIS 1065 in Sydney hosts a show called Kyle and Jackie O. They have a special segment called “Surprise Givebacks.” Donna, Tina’s daughter, knows how hard her mom works and she called in on Kyle and Jackie O to enlist them to help her surprise Tina. They came up with a really good idea that threw Tina for a total loop.
First off, the radio station graciously flew Donna in from the US where she’s been living for the past year. Then, they crafted a sure-fire plan to shock the mom during one of her shifts at the grocery store. While the woman is working, totally unbeknownst to her, they set up Donna in aisle 6, just standing around looking like a customer. Tina hears the announcement to go to the aisle where her daughter is waiting but walks right past her!
This hard worker is so busy, so focused on doing her job, that when Donna says, “Excuse me…” the woman walks over to help and doesn’t even realize who she’s looking at. There are a few moments exchanged between the two women, and Tina still isn’t piecing it together. It’s only after a little bit of time has passed that Tina clues in, and gasps, her hands flying to her face as she breaks down in tears before keeling over with emotion and delight.
She cannot believe what is happening before her eyes and is in such bewilderment that she doesn’t even run to hug her immediately. There’s this total, utter confusion and sense of feeling overwhelmed as Tina is flooded with emotion. Finally, they come together to hug it out and cry. It’s a really nice reunion in the middle of the store, one that mom didn’t see coming at all.
