What is that one thing that bugs you in the house? It can be anything. I think some of the things that I can think of, right off the top of my head, are fruit flies (on bananas), ants on my patio in the summer, a leaking faucet, and creaking doors! Of all the ones I just listed, I think creaking doors has to be one of the items that top that list. I just can’t stand them! I live in an old house, so it’s always making moans and groans. Especially in the colder months when everything shrinks and expands. I’m used to all these sounds but they still catch me off guard once in a while!
I remember growing up, when my baby brother would be sleeping, I feel like the doors around the house would creak louder for some reason. These doors would then give my mom a sound reason to blame us for waking the baby up. True story, believe it or not!
I know we all turn to store-bought products like our trusted friend WD-40 to do the trick when anything is creaking, but sometimes I don’t find a permanent fix; other times I just don’t have it laying around in my garage. So, evidently, I have to think of something else.
A quick at-home, DIY tip is to use a soap bar to stop the creaking for good. There are greasy and oil-based products that can work, but they leave an aftereffect on the hinges and the door, leaving everything looking greasy. So, we encourage you to use soap instead.
All you need to do is moisten the bar of soap and put a small sliver on the tip of every hinge and watch the soap bar works it’s magic. Now, there is a right amount that you should be applying to each hinge, and just in case you end up putting too much, wiggle the hinge down, and you’ll note the excess come right off.
There it is, folks! Another easy DIY trick! Who knew it could all be so simple?
